Environmental Remediation

OUR SERVICES

Asbestos is most commonly found in older properties, and if left in good condition undisturbed, is not harmful. However, damage to buildings, such as a water or fire loss, can affect asbestos-containing materials and create a serious health hazard to the building’s residents. Asbestos can commonly be found in older building materials, such as:

  1. Popcorn Ceilings

  2. Ceiling Tiles

  3. Roof Shingles, Tiles, and Siding

  4. Floor Tiles and Adhesives

  5. Drywall or Joint Compound

  6. Pipes, Furnaces or Attic Insulation

If you notice damage to the above, vacate the property immediately, avoid touching the materials, and call Blue River Restoration right away.

ASBESTOS REMOVAL

LEAD

Lead abatement is the process to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards, in order to reduce or eliminate incidents of lead poisoning. Lead abatement companies and processes are governed by the EPA. Blue River Restoration is licensed and certified to handle all lead abatement issues. Abatement results in a full repair and removal of the lead-based paint hazards.

It does not matter if a person breathes-in, swallows, or absorbs lead particles, the health effects are the same; however, the body absorbs higher levels of lead when it is breathed-in. Lead poisoning can happen if a person is exposed to very high levels of lead over a short period of time. Because symptoms may occur slowly or may be caused by other things, lead poisoning can be easily overlooked. Exposure to high levels of lead may cause anemia, weakness, and kidney and brain damage. Very high lead exposure can cause death.

UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK (UST)

Until the 1980's, underground storage tanks (UST) did not have much regulation by state or federal entities. Many times government agencies were not notified of new installations. This has led to many discoveries of underground storage tanks on properties. If a UST is discovered, professionals must assess the contents of the tank as well as the structural integrity to ensure that tank has not leaked.

Blue River Restoration is proud to aid in the maintenance of the environment by assisting with unwanted USTs. This aid comes by closure of the UST. There are three types of UST closure:

  • Removal: All USTs, piping, and dispensers are physically removed.

  • In-place: This means that a portion or all of the UST is closed without removal, usually due to it being inaccessible.

  • Change-in-service: a UST is converted from storing regulated substances to storing unregulated substances.
