In the United States, there is a fire every 24 seconds. In 2016, according to the United States Fire Administration, there were over 1,800 deaths and over 7,000 injuries due to residential building fires. Blue River Restoration has put together a few things to help when it comes to building fires and preventing them.
Smoke alarms should be inspected periodically, to make sure they’re working properly and that the batteries are in correctly.
Have a fire escape plan. Practice different scenarios and make sure every member knows what to do and where to go should they become trapped in any area of your home.
Making sure fire inspection is passed and fire extinguishers are up to date. Teach every family member how to use it in case of an emergency.
Making sure to turn off all decorative lights at night and before you leave the building. Don’t leave candles unattended. This is particularly important around the holidays, when we see a lot more of twinkle lights.
Never plug too many appliance cords into the same electrical socket or power strip.
Making sure everybody knows how to call 911 because it is essential that they know who to call in case of an emergency.
Install safety gates or other child-proofing devices around fireplaces, ovens and furnaces. Make sure to secure bookcases or any other shelving to the wall, especially if any sort of candles or electronic candles burn on them.
Let your friends are Blue River Restoration help you when a disaster does happen.
