1: Winterize Your Home

Planning ahead and staying on top of your home can help prevent a lot of issues that could happen. Checking your home to make sure the roof, weather stripping, insulation, and windows are all okay and no damage or cracks can help with saving money on heating. Making sure all the water lines are ready for winter, the outdoor hoses and landscaping furniture is stored away, the gutters are cleaned out and there is nothing out of the normal that could lead to cold getting in can help.

2: Check Heating Systems

Making sure your furnace is ready to run for this entire winter is the most important thing. If your furnace were to go out in the middle of winter, that can be a big replacement cost, not to mention what could happen while the furnace is out from the house being too cold. Replace the furnace filter.

If you have a fireplace, inspecting and cleaning the chimney before each winter to ensure that using the fireplace is safe is extremely smart. Check all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are good and do not need replaced. Anything that has a battery outside that could be exposed to the cold will need to be checked because cold does decrease battery life.

3: Prep Your Vehicles

When winter comes, its all hands on deck to make sure that everything is actually going smooth and ready for winter and the cold. Along with your home, property and business, your car needs attention too. Make sure your car is running and starting well before you get too deep into winter. Always keep tire pressure at or alittle above recommended PSI along with your spare. Check the windshield wiper blades for cracks and to see if they are actually working. Keep an emergency kit in your trunk incase anything were to ever happen with extra clothes (knit cap, gloves, extra pants, coats, boots), blankets, flashlights, phone charger, and a basic first aid kit.

Remember winter is not a joke, the cold can cause serious damage. If anything were to happen to your home, property or business that requires restoration, let your friends at Blue River Restoration be the ones to get your home or business back to normal.
